To a fine quality acrhitectural fireplace mantel of the c.1770-1780 period. The mantel shelf is mounted with a gutter to retain the edge of plates which were displayed above. The frieze is divided into three panels. The end two bieng projected and footed on a richly moulded projected trim with crossetted or "Dog Ear" corners. This trim also forms the hearth opening and is mounted to moulded edge jambs. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
