A delightful 14K yellow gold brooch depicting Thursdays Child from the poem Mondays Child. The cherub-like child is depicted walking along carrying a walking stick with his bag of belongings tied to the end, illustrating the line Thursdays child has far to go. The child walks along the top of a baroque freshwater pearl and his eyes are set with round sapphires. William Ruser, the personal jeweler to Hollywoods elite such as Loretta Young and Joan Crawford, created a series of jewels depicting the children from the poem, each in a characteristic pose that identified its correct day. They were undoubtedly popular gifts for new mothers in Hollywood. Ruser was one of Beverly Hills most exclusive jewelers until the late 60s when he sold his Rodeo Drive boutique to Van Cleef & Arpels. The pin is signed 14K Ruser. Origin: America, ca. 1950. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1-5/8 long. Weight: 12.4 grams.
