Authentic antique Model 1840 US Cavalry Sword, made by. W. Clauberg/Solingen listed as a dealer exporting swords to Confederate and Union during the Civil War. References; American Swords and Sword Makers by Richard H.Bezdek, Chapter 32 (3) European Sword Makers and Dealers Who Exported Swords to Confederate Dealers during the Civil War, page 449.Details: The hilt with a three bar brass guard and a leather covered wooden grip bound with roped brass wire. A slightly curved single edged blade with fuller stamped on the ricasso W. Clauberg/Solingen. The sword is in its original steel scabbard with two suspension rings. CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age except for the same dents in the lower part of the steel scabbard .MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 106 cm (41 3/4inches). Length of the sword without the scabbard: 102 cm (35 5/8 inches). Length of the blade: 87cm (34 1/4 inches).
