Antique Thai Bronze Bust of Buddha

Unavailable

This wonderful head of Gautama Sakyamuni, the Buddha of compassion, depicts the figure as a youthful prince, wearing large curls and the ushnisha spouting the eternal flame.  Mounted on later ebonized wooden plinth.  Executed with style elements of the Sukhothai (1238–1583) and Ayutthaya periods (1350-1767).  Apparently cut, with an uneven line, from the full figure. Blemish on the forehead, possibly from an old repair.
