Wooden Plane - Antique- Wooden Fore Plane

$49.99
Quantity available: 1

This wooden fore plane, used for planing boards prior to joining them, is 18” long by 3” wide. Its condition is good, but from the chamfer on the sole edges, it shows it has been employed a long time. It is a combination of styles in that the mechanism is all metal, while the sole is all wood. I believe the sole is made of beech. It is 1 5/8” thick. The blade is 2 3/8” wide and it is held in place with a lever cap against a frog, like a traditional metal body plane. The blade's cutting depth is changed with an adjusting screw. The blade, lever cap and frog have all been cleaned of minor rust and the blade has been diamond honed. During testing it cut well and held firmly in place. It is a fine tool and would make a nice addition to a shop as a working tool or to a display as a restored, but well used tool.
