William Dassonville (1879-1957) was a superb photographer and a man of great influence who was acclaimed for his evocative studies of the California landscape and cityscapes. He was also an innovative craftsman and self-taught chemist who developed and marketed his own lines of photographic printing papers. An active member of the Arts and Crafts movement, his images were frequently published in books and magazines both in America and Europe.
