Vintage mustard seed victorian necklace black enamel and mother of pearl

 

The Parable of the Mustard Seed is one of the shorter parables of Jesus. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."\   Mustard seeds encased in clear balls like this were s symbol of humility and sometimes to ward off evil. This one hangs from a vintage black enamel pendant with the most intricate detail of mother of pearl. The delicate looking black beaded chain measures 20" long and the pendant the seed hangs from measures 1 1/2" x 1".
