I can still remember going to Bob's Big boy and getting a hamburger and a shake when I was a kid. What a cool Bobs Big Boy pendant costume jewelry necklace! The original Bob's Big Boy (initially called Bob's Pantry) was a 10-stool hamburger stand in Glendale, California, which founder Bob Wian purchased in 1936 for the $350 he received from the sale of his DeSoto Roadster. The Glendale Bob's, originally located on the northwest corner of East Broadway and Maryland Street, was a popular hangout for teenagers in the 1950s. The name “Big Boy” came about when Bob Wian had a chubby young boy come into his restaurant one day. “He was about six and rolls of fat protruded where his shirt and pants were designed to meet. I was so amused by the youngster—jolly, healthy-looking and obviously a lover of good things to eat, I called him Big Boy.” Wian decided to name his new hamburger Big Boy, after the boy. Due to the burger’s success, he was inspired to rename his diner “Bob’s Big Boy”.
