From the 30's this is one gorgeous brooch with the sleek designs that were popular in the deco era. This has a lot of great metal work as well as a gorgeous piece of polished malachite. For some reason not easy to fathom, malachite was considered to be talisman peculiarly appropriate for children. If a piece of this stone were attached to an infant's cradle, all evil spirits were held aloof and the child slept soundly and peacefully. Such a gem became a powerful talisman and protected the wearer from enchantments, from evil spirits, and from the attacks of venomous creatures. THis measures 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" and has a C clasp. On the back it reads 925.
