Stillman's Saw Set Patent 1848
This is a very nice example of a very early patented saw set marked "A. STILLMAN PATENT 1848". The 8 at the end of 1848 is very light in the marking on this tool, but 1848 is the correct patent year for this tool. It's a hard to find tool that was manufactured and sold for about 60 years as far as I can tell in research. It measures 6.5" long overall. It's a simple design, yet effective on cross cut saws of that day. The handle is solid, with a good brass ferrule, the steel is clean and nice, a few tiny pitted areas. A really nice, old, simple saw set!
