This is a very nice, clean, and working precision dial indicator marked "STARRETT JEWELED NO. 196 .001" on the white indicator face. This is a top quality early 1920's era, universal type indicator with .001 graduations, and about .20 travel. The indicator body has two inspection number on the underside of the body. It works smoothly and is about 99% like new, with a nice shiny nickel plated finish, and a nice glass lens with little wear. It comes in the original fitted fabric covered metal case with foam fitted compartments for at the extra. I believe this set is complete as sold by Starrett. The case is marked STARRETT on lid, some of the red material is brighter in some places than others but all in good clean condition overall, nice exterior condition. The box is 2.4 x 5.2 x 7.0" overall. The case is very solid, some minor wear only. All the accessories seem to be present, as in the picture, a total of 2 tips, one universal surface gauge sleeve with a 5/16" holes to fit your transfer stand or surface gauge, or the tool post holder in the included, as it has a 4.5 long spindle on it. There is also one hole attachment, and a C-clamp attachment. Äll 4 of the tips are different diameters, and in good to very good condition. All the hardware and indicator are in very good, well cared for condition. The indicator has been inspected and does repeat as per spec. This is a hard to find, classic collectible machinist tool & custom case, by a well known tool maker!
