Offering this nice clean smooth plane marked "STANLEY MADE IN U.S.A. PAT. 1,918,750" on the cutter, and "BAILEY NO. 4 MADE IN U.S.A." on the bed. This plane has about 95% original black Japanning intact, a good sharp cutter about 99% full length, no cracks, minor staining, very clean bare metal surfaces, a few tiny dings here and there. The rosewood front knob and rear handle are solid, with with the thick varnish finish that Stanley offered in the mid-1900's era, some worn off lacquer finish, no cracks on the knob, but the tote handle has an old repaired crack, was tested and is holding strong. The cap cover has about 60% nickel plating intact, some light flaking type imperfections on the finish, most of the orange paint intact on the cap cover. A clean, ready to use or display plane by a top quality maker! a very good user plane from the mid-1900's era!
