Singer 128 Crinkle Finish, Blackslide Sewing Machine with Bentwood Case RARE Godzilla Finish

Unavailable

I am delighted to be able to offer  this fabulous & Rare  Singer 128 Blackside with Crinkle   .  Everything here is original and was made in  Elizabethport  New Jersey USA  in about 1948. . The needle plate, shuttle slide plates, faceplate, rear access panel and cloth guide are all 'Blackside'. The faceplate and access panel are of the 'striated' design.

It comes in a Walnut base and matching bentwood cover.   Unfortunately the original key is missing.  And the lid does not stay on unless the key is used to close it.     However I am in the process of trying to find a replacement key.
The 128 uses an oscillating bullet-shape bobbin case and the bobbin is a spool that is wound by a clever winding mechanism.   The fly wheel is of the shiny surface and that is how they were made.    I was shocked to see the bobbin case so clean and shiny.  Rarely is a machine this old is found in such a lovely condition.   There is a wonderful little storage hatch on the bed of the case that  has a metal plate lid that   opens so reveal all of the attachments.
It comes with many attachments extra bobbin and the original booklet.
The condition is extremely good for such an older machine.    The decals are in excellent condition.    Underneath I see a very clean machine.    There is some nicks on the bobbin winder and some other small sign of wear on the machine and case.   But it runs very nicely.

A bit of history:

During the period 1941 to 1953 Singer occasionally produced what are known as ‘Blackside’ models. Unlike the standard machines, many of the normally bright plated parts utilized a chemically blacked finish instead. This is thought to have been in response to shortages of nickel and chromium.. Also in roughly the same period Singer produced some machines with a ‘black crinkle’, ‘black wrinkle’, ‘Godzilla’ finish. Whatever you call them, they are extremely RARE
