Our lovely bonbon casket ( bonbonnière ) features extensive gilding and delightful painted scenes after Nicolas Lancret (1690-1743), known for his playful and romantic paintings depicting French society under the Regent, the Duke of Orleans. Painting signed Aube. Underside has a spurious Sevres hallmark and "La conversation gallante d'apres Lancret" (The gallant conversation after Lancret). Very good condition. 3.5 x 11 x 7 in; 8.9 c 28 x 18 cm.

For a similar casket also decorated by Aube, see lot 326 in Sotheby's sale of 19th Century Furniture, Sculpture and Works of Art in New York on April 23, 2004, offered with an estimate of $3,000-5,000 and which sold for $4,541 including buyer's premium.
