Vintage mid-20th century authentic Scottish Highlander dirk Sgian Dubh - Skean Dhu.
The dirk features a black synthetic grip adorned with a traditional braided Celtic pattern and plated metal mounts embellished with Scottish thistles, pommel adorned by a faux jewel.
Sturdy steel blade with scalloped back cut on both sides with a narrow fuller.
Accompanied by a leather-covered scabbard with plated metal mountings, adorned with a traditional Celtic pattern.
The Gaelic Sgian Dubh means "black knife," where "black" may refer to the usual color of the knife handle. It is also suggested that "black" means secret or hidden, as in the word blackmail. This is based on the stories and theories surrounding the knife's origin and the meaning of "Dubh" in Gaelic.
