Scioto Works Ohio Tool Skew Angle Rabbet Plane

Unavailable
This is a very nice, clean, and useable skew angle rabbet plane, marked "SCIOTO WORKS J.L. SAGE FRANKFORT KY. 116 RAC" on the toe of the bed. The Sage name is nicely marked, believed to be an owner. The 116 is the Ohio Tool Co. model number, and the Scioto Works is a trade mark name used by Ohio Tool Company at Auburn N.Y. or Columbus OH. plants. The bed is 1-3/8" wide and 9.5" long overall, and has a good sharp cutter, with plenty of length left for further use. The wedge appears original, and holds the cutter firmly in place. There is no cracks noted, very little wear, and two small screw holes noted on both side, that someone may have use to attach a guide at sometime in the past. The Scioto trade mark was used between 1893 and 1907 by Ohio Tool Co.. This type skew plane is still a handy plane to have in the shop! The skew angle cuts a curl shaped wood chip, that makes for a nice schill, or a fire starter type curly chip that comes off the plane, used to help start a fire in the fireplace. The schill planes we have sold in the past have wood guides on both sides, as this one may have at one time. A nice looking, useable antique plane!
