This is a very nice, clean, early 1900's-40's antique set of extension lip spur auger bits with the tapered ends to fit the antique style hand brace chucks. This set includes about half of the auger bits are marked "THE JAMES SWAN CO." but are the same patented pattern as the others that are marked "THE RUSSELL JENNINGS MFG. CO. CHESTER".  This set comes with a very well made, solid 13 space wooden storage box that has individual slots for each size.  The box is believed to be made by James Swan Co. as most Russell Jennings augers were sold in a 3 tier chest, but the one included is a hinged and latched side lid that opens to see the 13 auger bits size 4-16/16ths in all.  These are all Russell Jennings pattern bits, all with the fine thread type lead screws and double spurs and twists. The wood storage box is far more rare than the 3 tiered chest and is as usefull as the other.  The wood is clean with some darkening to the exterior, the tin is all there and is clean, the hinges and latch works fine the wood is strong, not damaged.  All the auger are in 90% like new or better condition.  A nice clean set ready to go to work!
