Art Deco Rugby Players Bronze and Marble Sculpture

$7,450.00
Quantity available: 1

Our client's Art Deco period card tray, circa 1925, is distinguished by its enormous size and finely sculpted depiction of the tackling of a a rugby ball carrier.  Bronze has a warm brown patina and the tray is finely cut from Italian portoro marble distinguished by charcoal color with gold or honey colored streaks, a popular choice among European and American sculptors of the Art Deco period.

Surprisingly, it is apparently unsigned.  It measures 13 1/2 inches tall, 20 7/8 inches wide and 12 5/8 inches deep.  Likely of French, English or possibly American origin.  Its very large size, the largest cards tray we have ever seen in our 22 years in business, suggests to us it was commissioned by a rugby or gentlemen's club, or possibly designed for such a client but remained unsold and thus unsigned and with no dedication.  An extraordinary example of Art Deco sculpture.
