Royal Vienna Porcelain Portrait Vase by Wagner

Unavailable

Offered for sale on behalf of a client in Manhattan, this fine portrait vase with bronze mounts from Royal Vienna features the finely painted portrait of Gitana (the gypsy)  after the original painting by Angelo Asti (1847-1903).  Signed Wagner.  23 by 9 by 9 inches (58.4 by 22.9 by 22.9 cm).  Vase is constructed in two parts, with a well-designed and constructed female opening in the main body resting on a brass post rising from the porcelain base.  Lid is unattached and its underside shows the blue Vienna mark.

It is in very good condition.  There is rubbing wear to the raised gilding, particularly on the widest area above the pinched neck, just below the lid, and some chip losses to gilding elsewhere. The gilt bronze pedestal shows oxidation.  The beaded ring that decorates the area just below the lid is loose, but rests nicely in place and in our opinion does not need restoration.  There are light scratches and scuffs, including one modest but noticeable one to the upper right of the portrait.  The vase leans a bit, but it is structurally sound as-is.
