A rare and large decorative green jasper bowl, Suitable for use as a fruit bowl or other presentation. The color is deep rich green with yellow, ochre, burgundy and white veining. Raised on a shaped stem and foot. This green variety of jasper with red spots, known as heliotrope (bloodstone), is one of the traditional birthstones for March. Measures: 8.5" high x 12" diameter The appeal of jasper is its interesting color patterns and Formations. Though it can be a solid color, it is most often mottled, spotted, ringed, or striped. Each Jasper has a unique color or pattern, lending this gemstone much variety. Jasper is an ancient gemstone, and is mentioned in the bible and other classical sources. Jasper, an aggregate of micro-granular quartz and/or chalcedony and other mineral phases, is usually red, yellow, brown or green in color; and rarely blue. The mineral aggregate breaks with a smooth surface and is used for ornamentation or as a gemstone. It can be highly polished, like this bowl, and is used for items such as vases, seals, and snuff boxes. Like-new condition. Ready to place.
