Palatial (48 in) Neoclassical Bacchanal Bronze Jardiniere Vase

$15,000.00
Quantity available: 1

This tremendous patinated bronze urn in the neoclassical style, depicting the Triumph of Bacchus, has a Greek amphora shape with prominent handles with female caryatid finials, and body with Bacchanal procession and allegorical figures.  Mouth has a removeable liner.  48 x 28 inches (121 x 71 cm).  Apparently unsigned.

For a bronze urn of the same style and comparable size, see lot 231 of Sotheby's sale in New York on November 22, 2005, which was offered with an estimate of $15,000-20,000.

We have also seen comparable examples signed A. Mayer, possibly from the German sculptor, Alois Mayer (1855-1939), an accomplished artist who commonly depicted Classical figures cast in bronze.
