Pair Regency Style Gilt Bronze Table Lamps After Farnese Candelabrum

Unavailable

This matching pair of gilt bronze table lamps date from the early 20th century, and are based on the socalled Farnese marble tripod candelabrum originally printed in 1825 in Raccolta dei Monumenti Più Interessanti Del Real Museo Borbonico by R. Gargiulo, which documents important objects from the collection of the Real Museum Borbonico (now known as the Museo Archeologico Nazionale) in Naples.  The candelabrum was formerly in the Farnese Collection and was moved to Naples by Charles III (King of Naples 1734-1759 and King of Spain 1759-1788).

Cast in the form of a torchere after the antique decorated with flambeau above foliage and three cranes supporting the columns on triform pedestals incorporating rams' masks and chimera supports.  Flaming finials have been added in the manner of Thomas Hope's candelabrum illustrated in Thomas Hope Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, published in 1807.  Each bronze is mounted upon a marble pedestal.  Each measures approximately 28" tall.
