Terrific pair of American majolica portrait tiles from the American Encaustic Tiling Company, Zanesville, Ohio, depicting Napoleon and his wife Josephine in a translucent grassy-celadon glaze. c. 1878-1895. The tiles are in excellent condition with crazing as shown and a small right edge nick midway down the portrait of Napoleon and minor lower left edge nicks to the portrait of Josephine along with an upper edge nick at left.
