Pair Antique Paris Porcelain Apothecary Urns with Greek Motif

Unavailable

Our magnificent pair of Paris porcelain urns date from the mid to late nineteenth century, measure an impressive 27 inches tall and feature the profiles of Hippocrates and Asclepius, plus gilded decorations and painted floral bouquets.  Condition of each is good, with visible rubbing wear and losses to the gilding, and one urn with an old, professional restoration to the handles and rim.  One has a small chip to underside interior of the rim.  Bolts are also later.

Hippocrates of Kos (c460-370 BC) was the Greek physician of the Age of Pericles (or Classical Greece).  Sometimes refered to as the Father of Medicine, he is considered one of the leading figures in the history of western medicine.  In ancient Greek mythology of same period, Asclepius is the hero and god of medicine.
