Pair Antique Gothic Style Champleve Enamel Bronze Prickets Candlesticks

Unavailable

Our pair of gilt bronze prickets in the gothic style are attributed to the German designer, Carl Fruhling (1807-1893), of the third quarter of the nineteenth century.  They feature gargoyle legs, spherical bases with champleve enamel roundels and standards with enamel decorations, Corinthinian capitals and large drip pans decorated with vines.

For a similar pair of prickets attributed to Fruhling, see lot 115 of Sotheby's sale of 19th Century Furniture and Decorative Artist in New York on October 15, 2015, offered with an estimate of $6,000-9,000 and bought-in.  The lot note describes Carl Heinrich Fruhling as an official court architect of Count Otto Zu Stolberg-Wernigerode.  He is known for his designs at Castle Wernigerode between 1862 and 1893, considered one of the finest examples of Neo-Gothic design.
