Pair Large Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Bronze Mounted Urns
This pair of antique Chinese export porcelain vases with lids in the Famille Verte style, have hexagonal baluster forms, measure an impressive 26 in (66 cm) tall, and feature gilt bronze mounts in the style of Samson et Cie. Undersides carry the same three simplified Chinese characters in red glaze, which starts (from the bottom) with the character Da (big), followed by Kou (mouth or person) . We have not yet deciphered the third mark. Each is in excellent condition, with no visible cracks. There is a flake chip from the ear of a foo dog on one finial which has been regilded. There is evidence of a restoration and regilding at the edge of the rim in two locations. Red mounting clay residue is visible at the base on each where the jars meet the bronze base.
