Osseyba Reliquary Guardian Figure from Bakota (Kota), Mahongwe Tribe, Gabon

Unavailable

Our very large osseyba reliquary guardian figures come from the Bakota (Kota) people of the Mahongwe Tribe of Gabon, Africa. Recently acquired from an estate sale in Manhattan. They appear to date from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century and are mounted on modern (likely mid-century) wooden plinths. There are some metal losses, scratches, nicks, and dents throughout, consistent with age. The largest osseyba figures we've seen in our 20 years in business.  Additional image forwarded upon request.
