Ohio Tool Socket Framing Chisel 1 1/2 inch

Unavailable

This is a very sharp antique 1.5" wide socket bevel edge/framing chisel marked "OHIO TOOL CO. N164 GRADE STEEL ESTAB'D 182?".   This is a rare mark, most likely this chisel was made pre-1890.  This is one of Ohio Tools Company's best made chisel, offered in good condition ready to work. It is 14" long overall x 1.5 wide cutting edge, 10.25 long steel only.  This type of chisel has the soft durable steel on the top beveled area and in the whole socket, but has the laminated hardened steel on the bottom cutting edge area of the chisel blade area.  This process produced among the very best, long lasting chisels in the world. The handle is solid with the iron end ring a little beat up, but it did the job over the years and will continue under normal use. It appears the handle was hit with a metal hammer at one time, if a wood mallet was used the iron ring and the handle would be in much nicer shape. I have several mallets for chisel work available, please check my other listing if you need one. A nice solid chisel with only minor pitting and dings (none that will effect the cutting edge) and some staining. A quality antique tool!
