Antique Silver Mounted & Jeweled Islamic Middle Eastern Marsh Arabs Dagger Jambiya Khanjar

An exceptional 19th-century Jambiya dagger from the Ottoman period in Southern Iraq, adorned with silver mounts and jewels, originating from the Khanjar of Basra region.

The dagger has a long, curved, double-edged, sturdy steel blade with a medial ridge.

The hilt is made of one piece of horn and has an elegant design. It is carved with a central knob and a typical hooked pommel that is decorated with a silver domed rosette. The base is mounted in a low-grade silver ferrule set with five blue cabochons.

The scabbard is made of low-grade silver with a wooden insert. It is decorated with scrolling foliage, braided silver wire, and bands of blue cabochons. The inner side of the scabbard is chiseled with scrolling foliage and the name "Hamza Bin Ziran."

CONDITION:

Overall, it is in good condition with signs of usage, fine age patina, the tip of the blade slightly pitted, and the silver ferrule and scabbard showing areas of wear and dents.

Overall length of the scabbard: cm 39 cm (15.35 inches).

Overall length without the scabbard: 36 cm (14.2 inches).
