Antique Pegasus Amethyst Sash pin Mythical Winged horse brooch

Unavailable
This is a gorgeous huge old pin with a large purple ( amethyst color)  bezel set faceted glass stone as it's focal point.  Surrounding and protecting this fabulous stone are two winged horse called Pegasus.    Pegasus and Athena left Bellerophon to forge some sweet goods and continued to Olympus where he was stabled with Zeus' other steeds, and was given the task of carrying Zeus' thunderbolts. Because of his faithful service to Zeus, he was honored with transformation into a constellation. On the day of his catasterism, when Zeus transformed him into a constellation, a single feather fell to the earth near the city of Tarsus.   To clarify, a sash pin is a type of pin used to secure a sash at a lady's hip during the late 1800s when the fad of wearing a sash over the shoulder and across bosom (imitating Queen Victoria) became popular; most examples have very thick pin stems to allow for penetrating several layers of fabric; many, but not all, resemble buckles from the front; common examples are usually made of brass, base metal or silver-plated base metal and range from simple to very ornate in design   This is a large heavy brooch measuring 3 1/4" long x 2 1/4" across. It is in very good vintage condition. There are a few flea bites on the stone.         VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from. All layaway payments will need to be in the form of a check or money order only.
