Raoul Maucherat de Longpre Lilac Floral Gouache Painting

Unavailable

This lovely gouache on paper by Raoul Maucherat de Longpre (French, 1859-1920) depicts a bouquet of lilacs, one of the artist's favorite subjects.  It resides within a glazed, giltwood frame which has a couple areas of loss along the left, front edge.  Frame measures 14.7 x 11 in (37.3 x 27.9 cm), and the painting measures 9.5 x 6.6 in (24.1 x 16.8 cm).  Condition of the painting is excellent.  There are no signs of foxing or other damage, and the painting lays flat and the colors are vibrant.  We have not dismantled the frame for further inspection and are selling the item "as-is".   Raoul M. de Longpre was an accomplished and respected painter of floral still lifes, and is widely collected.  His works regularly appear at major auction, and the highest known hammer price for a painting by this artist occurred in New York at Sotheby's on May 18, 2005, when lot 5, a 20" by 28" gouache painting of lilacs and roses sold for $27,000 including buyer's premium.
