Antique 19TH Century Gilt Wood Sculpture Figure OF ST Luke Evangelist
Antique, 19th century, gilt wood sculpture of St Luke Evangelist, the author of the third gospel, depicting the apostle standing on an integrally carved base clad in long robes with his attributes, an Ox on his left, his left hand clasping an open gospel, and right hand holding a pen. The rear plane, unfinished, since originally, the statuette was most likely part of an altarpiece.
Condition: In good condition considering its age, usage, minor loss of gilding on prominent areas by prolonged hand contact, minor age crack to the base and to one horn of the Ox.
