Antique 19th century Middle Eastern Islamic Silver Amulet Talisman Case

$500.00
Quantity available: 1

Antique 19th century Middle Eastern Islamic amulet case handmade of low-grade silver alloys .The amulet case is known Muslim culture as Hirz (Ta'wiz-Muska), featuring an elongated cylindrical form adorned with granulation work. It has three tubular eyelets at the top, allowing for suspension from a cord or chain around the neck.

These types of amulet cases initially held Qur'anic verses written in tiny rhubarb or dust script. In this manner, the words of God expressed through holy verses covering the boxes, as well as the sacred texts held inside, acted as fortifications for malice, ill fortune, sickness, and enemies. The amulet, therefore, served as a portable talisman.
Since both ends of the amulet are sealed, it is impossible to determine whether the paper scroll is still inside the body of the amulet.
