Antique Islamic, Yemeni, Arab dagger, Khanjar Jambiya with a belt, 19th century, Yemen.
A tribal pattern is engraved on a shaped hilt made of two sheets of low-grade silver alloy, which are bounded in the middle by an embossed brass strap.
The outer side and the pommel are ornamented with embossed brass rosettes, and the base is mounted in the embossed iron ferrule.
Jambiya is mounted with a broad, slightly curved, double-edged blade formed with a pronounced medial ridge on each side.
The wooden scabbard has two large mountings decorated with fine filigree and beadwork. The back of the scabbard is covered with leather.

The outer metal belt comprises 9 square panels cast in a low-grade silver alloy and applied with copper alloy rosettes. Each panel is connected by 8 looped silver links and flanked at both ends by elaborately cast brass panels.
The large fabric belt is finely hand embroidered with a coiled metallic thread and various colored threads and affixed with an iron buckle. The backside of the belt is lined with dark blue canvas, which is a later addition.
Yemeni jambiya blades are nearly always weak since they are made for ceremonial purposes, intended to be worn by men on the outsides of their clothing as the symbol of male honor and the status symbol of the owners to show off their wealth and social class and almost mystical to some.
The Jambiya dagger derives its name from the Arabic word for "side" due to its typical placement on one's side.
