An antique 18th – 19th century Indo Persian Islamic shield (Dhal Separ). Made of well hand hammered solid steel of circular convex form, damascened in silver and gold koftgari with four tall pitchers and two swords amongst gold inlaid stars. An extreme edge reinforced by an applied brass band. The center is decorated by a rosette surrounded by four domed bosses, with bolts on the back for a rope (to hold the shield). The rim of the shield is appliquéd by a broad reinforcing band with a serrated border riveted to the shield and enriched in silver koftgari. The center is set with four domed bosses, surrounded by silver koftgari, affixed on the reverse by four ring-bolts and attached fabric straps to hold the shield.

MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 33.4 cm (13.15 inches).

CONDITION: Silver and gold inlaid koftgari worn.
