Antique 18th Century Islamic Mughal India Indo Persian Helmet Kulah-Khud
Antique 17th-18th Century Islamic Mughal India silver inlaid Indo Persian Helmet Kulah-Khud with a hemi-spherical skull and a stout mounted long spike at the top and sliding nasal, long neck defence camail of chain mail of rounded links. The skull is hand chiseled with eight circular medallions containing various figures. The edge of the helmet is adorned by a broad band of creepers all damascened in silver koftgari. The skull of the helmet is hand forged from a single piece of thick solid steel with visible hammer marks in the interior but with a perfectly smooth surface on the exterior.
Height from the top of the spike to the bottom of the mail: 70 cm (27.56 inches).
Height from the top of the spike to the bottom edge of the helmet: 25.5 cm (10.04 inches).
Diameter: 22.5 cm (8.86 inches).
WEIGHT: 1795 grams.
CONDITION: Minor crack on the edge of the skull at the sight below the band). Due to the heavy high-quality steel structure of the helmet this damage was certainly made during combat, spike slightly bend.

Since the market is flooded by reproductions of Indo-Persian Arms and Armour including Kulah-Khud Helmets, made by artisans, in India, in the stale off authentic objects, some of them are very well made and professionally aged to look old as authentic 16th - 18th century objects, which for inexperienced collectors look the same as the authentic objects.
However, these reproductions do not have any historical or investment value.
