Antique, late 18th or early 19th century, imperial Russian casket, or chest, veneered with bone in a manner characteristic of the 18th-century works of Khalkogory artisans from the Arkhangelsk region.
The Kholmogorsky District of the Arkhangelsk Oblast is located near the port of Archangel on the White Sea coast. It was an important trading post in the far north of the Russian Empire.


The wood casket is rectangular, with a beveled lid supported on four bracket feet.
Veneered on the lid and sides with bone panels, having a wonderful hand-pierced, fretwork foliate decoration, and adorned with engraved and stained wreaths and other foliates.
The interior is lined with a paper lining printed with checkered pattern.
The box has its original lock (no key)
