Norman Kulkin: untitled photogram (number 1232)

$400.00
Quantity available: 1
Los Angeles artist Norman Kulkin has long been interested in the snapshot as art. This photograph is part of a series of photograms he has made using snapshots as a paper negative. Artist's blind stamp below image; dated with notes in pencil on the verso. A photogram is a camera-less photograph made by placing objects on the photographic paper and exposing it. The method was popular among Surrealists, as the concept of placing found objects on paper seemed an extension of Andre Breton's automatic writing. (Here, Kulkin uses a found image.) By definition, photograms are one of a kind;, unique photographs; since there is no negative used in making the print, the print cannot be replicated.
