Montgomery Ward Automatic Push Drill w/ 8 Bits Box

This is a very rare automatic push drill model, marked "WARDS MASTER QUALITY" on the nickel plated sleeve of the main body on the drill, and "MONTGOMERY WARD MASTER QUALITY AUTOMATIC PUSH DRILL WITH 8 DRILLS 84-1315" on the box label. This is a spring loaded drill, that spins the drill chuck in a clockwise motion when you push the handle toward the chuck. Greenlee made the screw chuck on this drill to except old Goodell fluted shank drill bits with the 4 flutes or parallel notches on each shank to go in the chuck, then at the other end, a 2 fluted wood cutting point. The full set of 8 drill different size bits (points) to fit in the chuck comes with the drill, and they are stored in the handle. All 8 points are different sizes from 1/16" to 11/64", all are from very good to like new condition. The handle is hollow with 8 spaces to put points and one space to lock the cylinder in place to keep the points from falling out. The handle is hardwood with a medium dark stained finish on it, very nice looking. Everything works as it should, very good mechanical condition. Appearance is about 95% like now with most of the wear on the spiral shaft, some very minor wear on the handle too. Overall a very nice, clean drill. The box is good, solid with a good label. The label has an inventory ink stamp on it, otherwise, in about 95% new condition. There is some wear on the top corners of the box, overall a nice clean original box, for a rare tool! A rare one! Greenlee also made a model similar in appearance to this one, but with the YANKEE brand style chuck instead. A nice design!
