Matadors Framed Lithograph Print by Moshe Gat

This print by the Israeli artist, Moshe Gat (1935-), depicts a group of matadors waiting to enter the ring. Signed by the artist in pencil and numbered. It is believed to date from the 1960s and resides in a period wooden frame with polished brass edge, and with decorative cardboard and linen mattes. Frame measures 30 by 24.75 by 1.5 inches. Portion of the print exposed under matte measures 25 by 19 inches). Condition is excellent. The colors are relatively bright and the print lays flat with no signs of foxing or other damage. This particular work was likely made during his time in Mexico, or was possibly inspired by visits to Spain. After a successful start to his career in Israel, Gat moved to Mexico in 1958 and later to the U.S. where he remained until 1962 when he returned to Israel to teach at the Bezalel School in Jersusalem. He has had exhibitions at the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts and the Mer Kup Gallery in Mexico City, the A.C.A. Gallery in New York, Haifa Municipal Museum, Chermerinsky Gallery in Tel Aviv, Metropolitan Fine Art Gallery in Tokyo, Pushkin House in Moscow, among others.
