Unavailable

Our finely cast bronze of Lorenzo de Medici, Duke of Urbino (1492-1515), after the original marble sculpture by Michelangelo that decorates the tomb of the Duke in the new sacristy of San Lorenzo in Florence, was cast in Paris by Georges Servant, circa 1880s.  It measures 19.5 inches (49.5 cm) tall and weighs an estimated 35-50 lbs (15.9x22.7 kg).  Marble base upon which it's sitting is the top of the table, and not included with the sculpture.

Cast in Paris at the foundry of Georges Emile Henri Servant (1828-1890) with the firm's impressed monogram found on rear near the bottom.  Condition is good. There are scratches, embedded grime and surface dirt, and some patches of verdigris, all consistent with age and decent care.

Servant was a widely respected Parisien French clockmaker and bronzier.  He assumed control of his father's workshop and foundry in 1855 and through the 1870s exhibited at major expositions throughout Europe. He won a gold medal for a his Neo-Grecian and Egyptian style clocks at the Universelle Exposition in Paris in 1867. In 1874 he was awared the Legion d’Honneur in 1874.
