Our client's pair of monumental candle stands by the revered English artist, Alexander Fisher (1864-1936) are crafted from carved stained oak and feature hand-hammered embossed silverplate shades with foliate designs, and stand an impressive 84 1/2 inches tall and 18 3/4 inches across at the base.  

Originally commissioned and installed in the domed chapel at Kelham Hall in Notthingham, England, in 1928.  Deaccessioned and held in private hands since the 1970s.  Electrified with working sockets and cord, ready for use.

Fisher was a revered artist known particularly for his painting, silver, enamels, sculpture and furniture, and was a leading contributor to the English Arts and Crafts movement.  He taught at the Slade School of Art and in 1909 published The art of enamelling upon metal: with a short appendix concerning miniature painting on enamel. and  contributed an article on enamels for the Encyclopædia Britannica.  He learned enameling during his trips to Limoges and his later students included Nelson Dawson and Ernestine Mills.  His artworks can be found in prestigious collections across the United Kingdom and abroad, including the Albert & Victoria Museum in London.
