Our bronze, Le Joueur de Sintir (The Sintir Player), by Louis Guillaume Fulconis (1818-1873) measures 20 x 10 x 10 in (50.8 x 25.4 x 25.4 cm). Signed in the cast.  Cast in Paris by Fonderie Thiébaut Frères in the third or fourth quarter of the nineteenth century.

The sintir, also known as the guembri or gimbri, is a three-string bass plucked lute originating with the Gnawa people of the northern Saharra, particularly Morocco and Algeria. Their native music is known as Tagnawit.
