Haida Johann Oertel Glass Vase with Stylized Jungle Birds Circa 1920

Unavailable

Our client's cylindrical vase decorated with stylized exotic jungle birds including toucans and flower leaves, is attributed to the glass school in Haida, Bohemia in Austria (current day, Nový Bor, Czech Republic) and produced by Johann Oertel & Co, circa 1915-1920.  Made from colorless glass with ball cut, gold and black painting. Marked with the Oertel cypher Ö in gold on underside.  6.25 x 3 x 4 in; 15.9 x 7.6 x 7.6 cm.

Designer is unknown.  It's style is reminiscent of the works by Dagobert Peche and Mathilde Flogl for the Wiener Werkstatte.

Literature: G.E. Pazaurek, W. Spiegl, 20th Century Glass, Fig. 238.
