Abstract Thoroughbred Horse Race Oil on Canvas by Helen Van Tempera
Our fabulous oil on canvas in the Impressionist style by the Chicago area painter, Helen van Tempera (1930-2012), depicts three thoroughbred race horses locked in a tight race. We believe this work dates from the 1970s or 1980s. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner and mounted in a period wooden frame with rustic limed finish. Stretcher measures approximately 22.5 by 23.5 inches and the frame approximately 19.5 by 31.5 inches. Tempera was a 1961 graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught oil painting at the Elmhurst (Illinois) Artists' Guild at the McCormick House in the Elmhurst Art Museum.
