This cameo and backing is carved out of one piece of mother of pearl shell. It is both a pin and a pendant. I think because of the age of the piece, that it might once have had an older pin stem with a "C" catch. Now it has a regular pin stem which has been expertly applied. It also has a ring bale for use as a pendant.
