Greek Cretan dagger Bichaq mounted in sterling silver and made in the 20th century.
DETAILS: It is made in the characteristic Turkish Ottoman Balkan "Bichaq" form. Sterling silver straps enclose the bone hilt and ferrule, which are worked in low-relief repousse with foliage and Greek inscription. The knife is mounted with a recurved, clip-point, single-edged steel blade etched with Greek script.
A solid sterling silver scabbard, lined with a wooden insert, is richly adorned with repousse, chiseled figures, and foliage. The scabbard is stamped with a 925 sterling silver mark at the end.

MEASUREMENTS:
Overall length with the scabbard: 27.5 cm (10.83 inches).
Overall length without scabbard: 22 cm (8.66 inches).

CONDITION: with signs of age and use.
