Glass Vase Floral Still Life Antique Baptiste Engraving
The eminent flower-painter, Jeane - Baptiste Monnoyer was born in Lille and studied in Antwerp and Paris. At the age of thirty, in 1665, Baptiste was admitted to the Academy and for his reception he painted a flower and fruit piece. This painting met with much praise and his reputation for floral painting grew rapidly. Baptiste was employed in ornamenting the palaces of the French aristocracy. His works can be seen at Versailles, Trianon, Marly, and Meudon and was commissioned by English nobility during his London residence. He provided over fifty panels of fruit and flowers for over mantels and over doors for the Montague House in England, and also was commissioned by Queen Mary II, Queen Anne, and various collectors. Although well known as a brilliant painter of flowers and fruit, Baptiste also engraved a number of plates of vases of flowers.
