Gilded Octagonal Pedestal Cafe Table
This pretty eight-sided pedestal table features a faux marble painted surface decorated with gilded center rosette and eight panels with cross-hatch pattern, separated by rosettes and bordered by a lozenge and bead pattern. The top and the four sides of the pedestal are cased in clear glass. Bell flowers decorate the lower portion of the pedestal and the cabriole legs feature carved leaf designs and scrolling feet. There is considerable wear to the finish along the cable-molded edge. There is old numeric writing on the underside in a nineteenth century style, but we believe this table may date from the early twentieth century. The glass top is not believed to be original. It measures 21.75 wide and deep from side to side, and 23.5" wide from corner to corner, and 23.5" tall. There are no hallmarks and the maker an country of origin are unknown. This item resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (New York City) and may be seen in person by appointment. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( hantiques )
