German Antique lightly uesed 12.5" diameter Bread plate with walled city view
Unavailable
Antique plate that has a painted/stained designed of an Eastern German/Ottomon walled city in the plate center. There is what appears to be a city eagle emblem below the city and a verse around the edge. It translates to something roughly that Germans created this site and with the word and after a hike in the summer we are hot. That is my best guess. On the reverse there is a mark, as shown and something is written in German that is too faint to fully make out. I would put this into the Prussian era or around 1900. It has not been heavily used and is possible a tourist or soldier brought it to the States after WWI. It looks to be made of Oak and is quite wide at 12.5" and is one board, which is also indicative of its age.
